Dina - "It (MyEdSpace) is innovative and works for my daughter"

“It’s innovative and it works for my daughter”

Dina and Anjali’s MyEdSpace story

For Dina and her husband, education has always been at the heart of her home.

“I’m a radiographer,” she says, “but I’m also involved in apprenticeships in radiography, so I do a bit on the education side too.”

Her husband is equally academically minded, and both of them studied Maths and English up to A-level.

“For a long time, that was enough,” she says. “We supported Anjali (their daughter) heavily, buying lots of maths books, trying to reteach what she’d learned in school.”

But even for two well-educated, hands-on parents, there came a limit.

“You reach a point where you just can’t remember things from GCSE or A-level anymore. And children learn differently now. Parents don’t always have the time to teach, or even teach in the most modern way. Things have changed in 20 years.”

It was this realisation that pushed them to look for expert support - something that aligned with their values and their lifestyle.

A practical choice that fit their lives

Anjali studies maths through MyEdSpace.

Looking for a tutor, the family knew the traditional model wasn’t right for them.

“One big attraction was not having to leave the house. Children today are overstimulated—clubs, activities, everything. It was important that she could have time at home.”

Cost mattered too. “Not having to pay £40+ an hour for tuition, that’s huge.”

“We didn’t realise how useful it would be to pause, rewind, and learn properly.” - Dina

But the biggest surprise came later. “We didn’t realise how useful it would be to pause, rewind, and learn properly.”

The on-demand structure gave the family something they hadn’t even known they needed.

“We found benefits we didn’t expect,” she says. “Sometimes children come home tired. They’re not at their best. With MyEdSpace, if she’s not up for it that evening, she can leave it and do it the next day or the weekend. And if we’re busy on the weekend, she can catch up later. That flexibility is so important for children now.”

Initially, Dina wondered whether live lessons would be interactive enough. “How will they respond to questions? Will she keep up?”

But they soon discovered that watching live wasn’t what Anjali needed. “She pauses, rewinds, re-listens. That’s her learning style. Doing the lessons at her own pace actually worked better for her than the live sessions.”

Trying hard but not always getting there

Dina is pragmatic when describing her daughter.

"She tries really hard. But she wouldn’t double-check answers." - Dina

“She’s an average student, and I think I can gauge that because I work in apprenticeship education. She tries really hard. But she wouldn’t double-check answers. She’d know the process, but the answer would still be wrong—and that’s what counts.”

The effort was always there. The outcomes weren’t always keeping up.

Everything changed with MyEdSpace

Anjali started with Neil, and now learns Maths with Nick.

“She feels like they know what they’re talking about. They have answers to the questions children ask in the chat, which sometimes doesn’t happen in mainstream school. There, if the teacher doesn’t know the answer, the children go around in circles.”

She also likes the tone of the lessons. “Some of the teachers are a bit silly and playful, which is nice for that age group. There’s light banter. It takes things down a notch. Everything’s so serious in education. A few little laughs help.”

A deeper understanding

Because Anjali can pause, rewind, and rewatch, she isn’t just copying steps - she’s understanding the maths itself.

“The depth of her learning is better. At school, things can be surface-level" - Dina

“The depth of her learning is better. At school, things can be surface-level. They’re doing things because the teacher says ‘move the decimal point,’ but they don’t always understand why. On MyEdSpace, because she can slow the lesson down and hear things repeated, she actually understands the topic.”

And when something from months ago comes up? “We go back to the platform, rewatch how Neil or Nick taught it, and it’s like having a backup teacher. The fact that the videos stay on the platform is really helpful.”

The video solutions help the whole family, too. “The last few homework questions are real stretch ones. Even we sometimes wouldn’t know how they got there. So it’s great to have those solutions.”

Time given back to parents - but still staying involved

MyEdSpace has eased the pressure on the household. “It saves a couple of hours a week. But we’re not completely hands off, children still need encouragement, especially when they’re tired or the questions get harder. They still need emotional support. But yes, it’s definitely given us time back.”

Dina’s initial concerns about marking and interactivity have all disappeared. “The marking is automated. You can see where a child is weak. It’s very good.”

And MyEdSpace’s pricing model impressed her even more. “They reward customers. Last year we paid the full price, and because they wanted to keep us this year, they made it even more affordable. It’s a no-brainer. Keeping families who are already invested makes sense, especially when it’s no extra work for the teachers.”

Shifting the private tuition mindset

She’s already told other parents about MyEdSpace, though she admits persuading people who are loyal to one-to-one tuition is difficult. “It’s hard to shift that mindset. Maybe they’ll come around.”

For Dina and Anjali, MyEdSpace wasn’t just a cheaper alternative, it reshaped how learning fits into their lives. Flexible, structured, deeper learning, all without leaving the house.

Or, as Dina puts it with a smile: “All the things I was concerned about have turned out to be absolutely fine.”
