Theo and Jenn’s MyEdSpace story

Before anyone mentions school or homework, Jenn tells you what really shapes their family life.

“Karting is everything for us. We travel constantly. Weekends, weekdays, long drives, race meets. It’s our routine.”

And at the centre of all that movement is 11-year-old Theo, who spends so much time on the track that his education has to keep up.

“For us, education has to be flexible. It has to move with us. It can't slow him down.”

Before MyEdSpace: drifting through school

At school, Theo was bored. Not just occasionally bored, but consistently unstimulated.

Drifting through school

“He has a reading age of 17 and his Maths is ridiculously high. The classes just weren’t providing what he needed. Everything was set by the pace of the group, and he was being brought down to everyone else’s level rather than stretched up.”

Jenn and her partner wanted to support him, so - like new F1 World Champion Lando Norris had while he was a youngster - they tried a personal tutor to support his learning. This was one teacher doing one session a week at £40 each time.

“It wasn’t bad, but we were completely reliant on one person. If they cancelled, there would be no lesson. And Theo wasn’t getting much interaction anyway.”

Six months in, they realised they needed something more structured, more consistent, and more suited to how Theo learns.

That’s when they found MyEdSpace.

The consistency required to keep pace with the racing

MyEdSpace gives them something they hadn’t had before - consistency.

“With MyEdSpace, he knows exactly what is happening and when. We’re not waiting to see if a tutor is sick or unavailable. It gives us reliability.”

And crucially, it gives them flexibility.

“There are race days where he finishes school at midday, comes home, eats lunch, and then catches up with MyEdSpace lessons. Last season, he literally did his lessons in the back of the car while we were driving across the country to race weekends. MyEdSpace fits into our lives in a way nothing else ever has. And, next year we’ll be travelling even more with his own kart. MyEdSpace will really come into its own then. It gives us structure. It gives him consistency. And we don’t have to sacrifice education for sport or sport for education.”

Theo agrees.

“I prefer learning at home. School can be boring. But MyEdSpace keeps my attention. It feels more interactive, even though the teacher is hundreds of miles away.”

Attention gripping, and slick

One of Jenn’s biggest concerns was keeping Theo’s attention. “I was worried he wouldn’t be able to focus without a teacher standing in front of him. I wondered if he’d drift off, or skip homework, or rush through things.”

But the opposite happened.

“The way the lessons are set out gives him confidence. He actually sits down and tackles homework now. The checking, the automated marking, the way they go over things in the next lesson so they can’t just skip ahead, all of that reassured me very quickly.”

“He’s much more prepared to sit down and work. More willing to tackle difficult homework. More motivated.”

For a family constantly on the move, it has done something even more important - it has made learning possible at full speed.

“MyEdSpace fits our life. It supports his karting, his confidence and his education. It lets him keep learning without slowing down.”

And something unexpected changed too. He fell in love with English.

“Honestly, I hated English at school,” Jenn laughs. “But one of the English lessons was so engaging that I stopped what I was doing and sat down to watch too. If they can make me enjoy English, then it's clear they're keeping Theo really engaged as well. It completely pulls him in.”

Theo has caught the bug too and smiles when he talks about it. “I didn’t like English before. Now I actually enjoy it.”

Fueling the focus, accelerating the learning

Jenn says the quality of the teaching at MyEdSpace is key.

“The teachers somehow manage to lock the kids in. Their energy, the explanations, the real life examples, the way they test what you already know. It’s incredible. I don’t know how they do it, but he focuses perfectly. Better than he ever has at school.”

Theo even follows some of his teachers on TikTok. “I like their videos. They’re fun. I watch Neil’s quite a lot. It just feels better than a school lesson,” he says, before adding, “it’s a nicer atmosphere.”

For Jenn, it’s everything they needed as a busy family with a limited budget, and she’s only too happy to spread the word among the paddock.

“For the mix of subjects you get, it’s completely worth it. I’ve already recommended it to two other karting families. It’s worth every penny.”
