My son is walking into school smiling again
Donna and Robin’s MyEdSpace story
Donna remembers exactly how it felt before things started to shift.
“My son, Robin, was worried he was going to fail everything,” she says simply.
Science in particular had become something he dreaded rather than enjoyed. Lessons felt overwhelming, and tests came with anxiety rather than reassurance, leaving his confidence draining away.
“We were just trying to help him catch up after Covid,” Donna explains. “Science and English were the main ones. Science especially. That was where he was really struggling.”
They had tried extra support before. Once-a-week 11+ tutoring with a local company had helped in the past, and Robin had even gone on to pass when the tutor initially thought he might not. But, now in Year 9 and with secondary school pressures only increasing, Donna knew they needed something more consistent and affordable.
That’s when they found MyEdSpace.
Reducing the pressure
Donna’s first impression was simple.
“It looked quite easy to use,” she says. “The new system is quite clear in terms of what you’re doing and where you’re meant to be,” she explains. “And having it online just makes life easier. You don’t have to travel anywhere. After school, it’s just there.”
What mattered most though wasn’t the technology. It was how Robin began to feel.
“He’s a lot more confident with science than he was before,” Donna says. “He’s actually going into school smiling when he’s got Science now, rather than thinking, ‘Oh God, I don’t know what I’m going to do.’ He comes home more positive.”
Robin agrees. “Going over topics again can feel a bit repetitive,” he admits. “But it is helpful.”
What’s changed most is how he feels about himself in lessons as he heads towards his GCSE years.
“I feel happier,” he says. “I’m more confident. I think it’s preparing me quite well,” he says. “I can look back at the lessons and revise using them.”
“It’s easier to understand than some school lessons,” Robin explains. “There’s more explaining, not just watching videos and doing worksheets. And you get the paperwork ahead of time so you can see what’s coming up.”
That preparation made a real difference when topics came up again in school and very soon Robin’s increased confidence was being reflected on the page. “He’s getting higher marks in his tests,” beams Donna.
Teachers who make learning feel possible
While Robin is working, Donna finds herself watching parts of the lessons too, and in doing so, any early worries she had quickly faded.

“The teachers are confident, very clear, and they make it a bit fun,” she says. “He enjoys the quizzes, the little codes. It keeps them engaged. I was worried he might find it hard or not enjoy it. But it’s done the opposite. It’s made him more confident, and he actually enjoys it. One day, he came home and said, ‘Oh, we’ve done this.’ You could see the difference straight away.”
From a practical point of view, the value stood out too.
“When you compare it to one-to-one tutoring, it really is good value,” Donna explains. “We were quoted £45 for one hour of science tutoring. This gives you English, Maths and Science together.”
She’s already recommended MyEdSpace to others.
“I’ve mentioned it to friends. I’d definitely say give it a go, it’s worth it.”
Looking ahead with confidence
Robin is currently focussing on Biology, Chemistry and Physics but says the latter is his favourite subject, while Chemistry still feels more challenging, but he’s feeling calmer than before.
“I think I’ll do better because this is helping quite a lot,” he says. “I can revise with the videos, not just worksheets.”
Donna notices the change every day.
“He’s happier. He’s more confident. And that, more than anything, is what matters.”
For their family, MyEdSpace hasn’t just supported learning - it’s changed how learning feels. And sometimes, that starts with something as small, and as important, as walking into a lesson smiling.
