A-level Biology steps up the study of life from GCSE, covering everything from genes and genetics to organisms and all the way up to populations and evolution.

As part of our 2026 A-level revision week, our expert Biology teachers, Laura Armstrong and Joe Wolfensohn, are opening up their collection of step-by-step video explanations, detailed revision notes and practice questions - in short, everything you need to walk into your A-level Biology exam feeling full of confidence and ready to show off what you know.AQA A-level Biology topics

The resources are split into eight modules, covering the full UK, AQA A-level Biology curriculum:

  1. Biological molecules

  2. Cells

  3. Exchanges of substances

  4. Genetic information and variation

  5. Energy transfers

  6. Organisms respond

  7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems

  8. Control of gene expression

Each module is then broken down into topics, and sub-topics. For example in the module on the control of gene expression, Laura covers the different types of gene mutations and the mutagenic agents.

After an in-depth review of mutations, including additions, deletions, substitutions, inversions and more, the key terms are explained in detail and students are given two exam tips.

Finally, an A-level practice question asks students to: ‘Name and describe two types of gene mutation’ - complete with a model answer.A-level Biology practice question

While these notes are invaluable, this is just the start.

To give yourself the best possible chance of achieving an A or A* in your A-level Biology exams, we’d recommend you sign up now for our Year 13 A-level Biology course - which will include free access to the dedicated Easter Revision course (more details below).

Alongside high-quality resources like these, on the Year 13 A-level Biology course you’ll enjoy two live 60-minute lessons with Laura Armstrong per week, where you’ll cover everything from oxygen dissociation curves and oxidative phosphorylation to blood glucose regulation and the loop of Henle.Give yourself the best possible chance of achieving an A or A* in your A-level Biology exam

You can see the benefits of signing up in the results our most recent cohort of students achieved last year.

  • Almost three-quarters of our A-level students achieved B or above (73%), nationally it was slightly over half (55%)

  • Almost twice as many of our A-level Biology students achieved A or A* (45%), compared to non-MyEdSpace students (28%)

  • Over half of our A-level students have been admitted into Russell Groups universities (56%) compared to only 27% across the UK

With results like those, it’s a no-brainer to sign up and get started ASAP.
