"I stopped worrying because I knew someone would teach me" - Binuk's GCSE story

17.08.2026

Year 11 - GCSE year - is stressful for most students.

For Binuk, it once felt genuinely daunting, not because he wasn't trying, but because he didn't have reliable support when difficult topics came up.

"I didn't really have any help, so I was quite worried about some topics, especially in Science. There were things I found really hard and I needed someone to teach me."

That changed when he joined MyEdSpace. Since then, Binuk has moved up multiple grades across Maths, Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), and English. Perhaps more importantly, the anxiety that once surrounded his revision has largely disappeared.

His story is a straightforward one: a Year 11 student who needed consistent, expert teaching across multiple GCSE subjects - found it with MyEdSpace - and is now looking forward to receiving his results, with real confidence.

From GCSE grades 2 and 3 to predicted grade 5

When Binuk first joined MyEdSpace, he was averaging a grade 3 in Maths and Science, and between a 2 and 3 in English.

The progress since then has been substantial.

"In my last mocks, I got a 4 in English and a 4 in Science. In Maths I got a 3, but I was only eight marks away from getting a 4."

For his finals, his English teachers have predicted a grade 5 and across the board, the trajectory is upwards.

For students about to head into Year 11 and wanting to improve their grades ahead of exams next summer, Binuk's progress illustrates what consistent, curriculum-focused teaching can achieve.

Turning confusion into confidence

One of the most striking parts of Binuk's story isn't the grade improvement, it's the shift in how he feels about revision.

Before MyEdSpace, uncertainty about difficult topics created left Binuk anxious. But, a combination of the live lessons and being able to rewatch the recordings later on, reassured him.

live lessons to rewatch

"After I joined MyEdSpace, I stopped worrying as much because I knew someone was going to teach it, or I could find a recording and go back over it."

That combination is more powerful than it might sound. It means there's no topic that falls through the cracks, if Binuk missed something in the live lesson, or needed to revise it before an exam, he knew the support was there - whenever, wherever, he wanted it.

For Year 11 students in particular, that safety net matters enormously. The volume of GCSE content is significant, and the window before exams is short. Knowing that help is always available, not just in scheduled lessons, changes the entire experience of revision.

The loneliness of one-to-one tuition

Before MyEdSpace, Binuk had tried private tuition. The experience was very different.

"My previous tutor mainly gave me worksheets and past papers, but I had to work things out myself," explains Binuk.

The gap between having someone hand you a past paper and actually teaching you the content is significant. Worksheets can reinforce understanding once it exists, but they can't build it from scratch.

Catalysing Chemistry progress

Of all the subjects Binuk studies, Chemistry represents the biggest turnaround.

"I used to be really bad at Chemistry,” sighs Binuk.

He’s not alone. GCSE Chemistry is a subject many students find abstract and difficult to visualise - reactions, equations, structures that don't always connect to anything tangible. Without good teaching, it can quickly become a subject students quietly give up on.

Binuk didn't give up. He kept attending lessons, working through the content, and gradually the pieces started to fit together.

"After the lessons, it became much easier. The revision sessions were really good and helped me understand everything much better. Chemistry used to be challenging, but not anymore."

The power to pause

Binuk is clear about what has made the difference for him.

"You do the whole topic in much more detail. You've got the workbook, you can ask questions, and it's much more focused. MyEdSpace follows the exam board and the specification properly with teachers who really know what they're doing. I definitely want to carry on using MyEdSpace," he smiles.

workbooks

School lessons move quickly by necessity, teachers have a full class and a packed curriculum to cover - but if you miss a day, it’s gone forever.

Meanwhile, MyEdSpace lessons are structured to make sure students genuinely understand each topic before moving on, with the workbooks and interactive format supporting that depth. And, because of the lesson recordings, they’re available for students to go back to - during which they can then pause and rewind to their heart’s content.
