"I went from feeling lost with revision to A*s in my A-level mocks"
Toby's MyEdSpace story
For many students, the jump from GCSEs to A-levels feels overwhelming - the workload increases, subjects get more complex, and old revision habits seem to suddenly stop working.
That's exactly where Toby found himself towards the end of Year 11, searching for a way to make his last-minute GCSE revision more effective.
"I had no clue where to start," he says.
Jumping up GCSE grades
Toby first came across MyEdSpace on TikTok in January of Year 11, and signed up mainly as a last-minute push before his exams.
"I started using MyEdSpace in January of Year 11. I saw it on TikTok and thought, I'll give it a go as a last-minute bit of revision for my GCSEs."
The impact was immediate. In the subjects where he used it, his grades jumped noticeably.
"It really paid off. I jumped up about two grades."
Finding structure in A-level revision
That early result was enough to convince Toby to keep using MyEdSpace once he moved into sixth form to study Chemistry, Biology and Geography.
Having previously struggled to find the right resources to revise, two things made the biggest difference: having everything clearly organised and learning from teachers he already knew and trusted.
"When you're doing the mocks, it's not like you've just found some random person. You actually know the teacher, you know what they're saying is valid."
Building strong foundations in Chemistry
Of his three A-level subjects, Chemistry has been the toughest for Toby - and his first set of mocks reflected that.
"My first round of mocks in December was a bit of a shock. I got C, C, C."
For Toby, the issue came down to foundations. Without them, nothing further into the subject quite held together.
"If you don't have the foundations, you just can't get much further."
Using MyEdSpace more consistently helped him build exactly that. One Chemistry lesson with Davinder, on visualising molecular shapes, stuck with him in particular.
"Trying to visualise it was quite hard, and then he showed me a site that could visualise it for you. That was really good."
That shift in understanding changed how confidently he now approaches exam questions.
"Now when I see an exam question, I'm like, great, I can answer it straight away."
From C's to A*s
The turnaround showed up fast. Toby's next round of mocks produced results he hadn't expected, including A*s in both Chemistry and Biology.
"I came back to my mocks last week and got A*, A*, A."
But, Toby cautions that there’s no quick fix and to be wary of revision advice on social media.
"There's all sorts on TikTok saying, if you use this, you'll go up two grades in a few days."
For him, what sets MyEdSpace apart is that it doesn't promise shortcuts.
"MyEdSpace is practical. It says you can improve - if you put the effort in, you can do it."
With his results behind him, Toby is now weighing up his next step.
"I've looked at universities and I'm not sure whether to do a Chemistry-based degree or a dual honours with Chemistry and Geography."
