In the coming months, thousands of Year 6 pupils across the UK will sit their SATs, assessing their progress in reading, writing, and Maths before the leap to secondary school. As a parent, knowing the key dates is essential to help your child feel prepared and confident.

Year 6 SATs 2025: The Essential Dates

The 2025 Key Stage 2 (KS2) SATs will take place from Monday, 12 May to Thursday, 15 May 2025. These national assessments, taken by all Year 6 pupils in England, evaluate their abilities in English Reading, Mathematics, and Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling (GPS). The results play a crucial role in tracking academic progress and often inform groupings for secondary school classes.

Year 6 SATs 2025 Test Schedule: What’s Happening Each Day?

  • Monday, 12 May

    • Grammar & Punctuation test - 45 minutes

    • Spelling Test - 20 minutes

  • Tuesday, 13 May

    • English Reading – 60 min

  • Wednesday, 14 May

    • Mathematics Arithmetics (Paper 1) - 30 minutes

    • Mathematics Reasoning (Paper 2) - 40 minutes

  • Thursday, 15 May

    • Mathematics Reasoning (Paper 3) - 40 minutes

Mark Your Calendar

Mark these dates on your calendar to ensure your child is ready for their SATs. Schools will also be administering the multiplication tables check within the two-week period starting Monday, 2 June 2025. Likewise, the phonics screening check will take place during the week beginning Monday, 9 June 2025—check with your child’s school for specific arrangements.
