Approach
Question 1 is a quick start to the paper where you gain four marks for your ability to retrieve information from a small piece of writing. You will be asked to list or find text from certain lines in the extract. The key thing is to only write about evidence from the lines they tell you to.
Write your answers as four separate statements.
Do not make inferences. You do not need to do any analysis, nor write paragraphs.
You are only tested only on your ability to find the information.
It’s as simple as that!
All you need to do is:
- Highlight the focus of the question and the lines you need to focus on – this supports you to select the correct evidence.
- Draw a vertical line next to the section of the source the question wants you to focus on – for example, lines 1 to 4.
- Scan the section of the source – highlight information that links to the focus of the question.
- Write your four separate answers in the exam booklet.
