5 Careers That Are Available To Your Child If They Ace Their Maths Exams

07.01.2023

As a parent, you want the best for your child and that includes helping them pursue a fulfilling and successful career. One subject that is disproportionately important for many careers is Maths. A strong foundation in Maths can open up a wide range of exciting and lucrative careers for your child. Mathematics is that subject which teaches us discipline along with the analytical skills needed for step by step problem solving

One career option that is available to your child if they ace their Maths exams is becoming a Mathematician. This is a highly specialised field that involves using mathematical principles and theories to solve complex problems and make predictions. Mathematicians are in high demand in industries such as finance, healthcare, and technology, where their expertise is needed to analyse data and contribute to decision-making

Another career that requires strong Maths skills is becoming an Engineer. Engineers use Maths to design, build, and test a wide range of products and systems, such as bridges, buildings, and machines. There are many different types of engineering careers, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, each of which offers unique challenges and opportunities.

If your child has a passion for finance and business, they might consider a career as a Financial Analyst. Financial analysts use Maths to analyse the performance of stocks, bonds, and other investments, and to make recommendations to clients. This career requires a deep understanding of Maths, as well as the ability to think critically and make sound financial decisions.

Another career that is available to your child if they excel in Maths is becoming a Data Scientist. Data scientists use Maths and statistics to analyse large sets of data and extract valuable insights. This is a rapidly growing field that is in high demand, as more and more businesses are relying on data to make decisions and improve their operations.

Strong mathematical skills are essential for success in an actuarial career. Actuaries are professionals who use mathematics and statistical techniques to analyse and solve financial and business data problems, particularly those involving risk and uncertainty. Actuaries are important in a variety of industries, including insurance, finance, and consulting, and they play a crucial role in helping businesses and organisations make informed decisions by providing data-driven insights and recommendations.

Personally, it was quite evident to me that I thought about Maths differently to others in my classes. I started smashing my exams, getting 100% on nearly all my exams at GCSE and A-level. At college, I originally wanted to become a medic (classic) but my teachers thought I could be something special in Mathematics so pushed me to continue studying it at University. I did just this and achieved a First-Class Honours from UCL, averaging close to 90% in my final year and topping my class in 4/8 modules. That push from my teachers really helped shape my life and this is exactly why I went into teaching - so I could pass on my differentiated knowledge and love for the subject, while trying to help my students get a great start to life.

In conclusion, a strong foundation in Maths can open up a wide range of exciting and rewarding careers for your child, and would certainly do no harm! As a parent, you can support your child in their Maths studies and help them achieve their career goals here at MyEdSpace!
